Overview 4: Instruments and indicator lights
Displayed below are common instruments and indictor lights.

Instruments — Obviously the speedometer tells your speed. The odometer the miles you’ve put on your motorcycle. A trip odometer is nice to reset every time you fill up with gas. I have a motorcycle that goes 180 miles + or – 10 miles per tank. When I see 170 on the trip meter, I know it won’t be long before I go to RESERVE [sorry, I got ahead of myself, I’ll talk about ON/OFF/and RESERVE in a moment]. The tachometer shows engine RPM (revolutions per minute — how fast the engine running). The tachometer will have a red line. DO NOT EXCEED this RPM or engine damage/failure may occur.

Lights — The only lights I can tell you for sure that your bike will have is green for neutral and blue for high beams. The rest of the lights depend upon your motorcycle manufacturer. I will warn you, a red engine light (if so equipped) is not a good thing in your car… it can be catastrophic on a motorcycle. If you see the red engine light illuminate while you’re riding, follow MOMs instructions to the letter — sorry, MOM is your Motorcycle Owners Manual. MOM never lies, so do what MOM recommends to prevent injury to you or damage to your bike.

That’s about it. Oh wait, I have to tell you about the Fuel Supply Valve — ON/OFF/and RESERVE.
